The traditional roots of the ALPINE EVO GTX cannot be denied. Nonetheless, the concept used in this mountaineering boot has forged new paths. It all starts at the very beginning – when you slip your feet into the boots. The elastic collar made of a soft Lycra material creates a form-fitting embrace around the leg and will prevent nettlesome pebbles from sneaking into your boots. The lacing system has been moved farther to the front, an enhancement that enables wearers to optimally adjust their laces. Additional comfort is provided by the X-LACING® system that is used to fix the footwear’s tongue into place and the locking hooks for a dual-zone lacing system. Users’ feet will remain dry no matter what thanks to the waterproof GORE-TEX lining used the boots. But the biggest highlight of all is the boot’s LOWA-REPTEX elements made of PU material that have been injected onto the upper. They not only take the place of the classic rubber rand, but also provide both the necessary stability and a refreshingly modern look, all whilst helping the boot shed a little weight. The ALPINE EVO GTX is the perfect choice for the toughest terrains, thanks in part to the new VIBRAM-ALP-TRAC®-NUMEN outsole, carbon-reinforced midsole and robust heel and toe cap.

The perfect mix of hiking and climbing

Via ferrata are iron routes built on mountains. The route is usually well marked with a permanently installed steel cable. It’s a source of great adventure. Fixed steel pegs and ladders are used in places that are too steep or rock faces that lacks sufficient structure. In addition to normal via ferrata equipment, climbers need the right footwear.

    • Generalist
As a rule of thumb, a good via ferrata boot is a generalist. After all, the route covers not just steps carved into rock and ladders, but also classic mountain trails, meadows and hiking paths.

    • Torsional stability
Climbers who are taking long tours or have to cover difficult passages need secure footing. This is why via ferrata boots offer exceptional torsional stability and give wearers firm footing even when they are carrying a full load.

Why do we need to go up there?

High-altitude tours belong to the Olympian class of mountaineering. During tours like these, mountaineers set off from the valley, take hiking paths, cross rock-covered terrain and trek through snow before reaching steep ice and firn flanks. High-altitude tours call for orientation skills, experience, climbing ability and sure footing cross alpine terrain. The right equipment is an absolute must for such tours. During high-altitude tours, mountaineers are part of a roped party or group and face all sorts of different terrains. They have to find their own way on snow, ice and rock.

ALPINE EVO GTX

VIBRAM ALP TRAC® NUMEN Your connection to the earth

The ALPINE EVO GTX comes equipped with a Vibram sole. The Italian sole manufacturer has been one of the leading brands of high-quality soles for many years.

The performance sole VIBRAM ALP TRAC® NUMEN is designed especially for alpine conditions. The large “climbing zone” on the sole tip enables wearers to move precisely as they manoeuvre their way up sheer rock faces. The stud arrangement ensures that any dirt that accumulates in the sole of the footwear will be shaken loose while the boot wearer is walking.

GORE-TEX Guaranteed weather protection

Guaranteed weather protection, even in pouring rain and heavy snow: The ALPINE EVO GTX is equipped with a GORE-TEX membrane. The innovative technology delivers optimal waterproof protection and breathability.

  • Permanently waterproof
The membrane provides reliable waterproof protection. No matter what sort of adventure you may be planning, you can count on GORE-TEX technology to keep your feet pleasantly dry.

  • High breathability
Designed with optimal breathability in mind, GORE-TEX shoes provide pleasant comfort even during intense activities. Water cannot penetrate the footwear, and moisture produced inside the shoe escapes through billions of pores in the GORE-TEX membrane.

  • Windproof
The GORE-TEX membrane dependably fights off the wind and the weather. As a result, you can head off on a tour no matter what the weather is like.

TWO ZONE LACING The shoes fit correctly as a result

Thanks to the two-zone lacing system used in the ALPINE EVO GTX, the forefoot and upper have their own separately adjustable lacing zones. As a result, the shoe can be individually adapted to the anatomy of the foot and laced in different ways for ascents and descents.

CLOSE TO THE GROUND For direct contact with the ground

People who venture across Alpine terrain face many challenges. Fields of loose rocks, rocky outcrops and rough terrain place the highest demands on footwear. For this reason, LOWA uses the technologies of CLOSE TO THE GROUND in the ALPINE EVO GTX to create a good feel on the surface. The sole is designed in such a way that the distance to the ground is kept to a bare minimum. The height minimisation throughout the entire shoe creates a natural feel during challenging tours and provides stable footing on uneven terrain.

I-LOCK All tied up

Just pull tight and lock in place: To simplify the job of tying footwear, LOWA has developed a special type of fastening hook for the ALPINE EVO GTX. Special feature: the system holds the laces in place in two different zones. Once the laces have been pulled tight in the lower area, they can be locked in place with the help of the fastening hook. Simply pressing the hook fastener upwards releases the locking action and the instep laces can be loosened.

FLEXFIT® Comfort in every step

Feet can roll more effectively if the upper of a hiking boot can be easily bent. Such a feature saves energy when the wearer climbs hills and it provides real comfort in the process. The large “climbing zone” on the sole tip enables wearers to move precisely as they manoeuvre their way up sheer rock faces. The stud arrangement ensures that any dirt that accumulates in the sole of the footwear will be shaken loose while the boot wearer is walking. More …

Thermoplastic polyurethane

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is like classic polyurethane in many ways. But it differs from it in one special aspect: the process used to produce it. As a result, TPU is more abrasion and slip resistant. It also has a very high degree of kink and tensile strength. Thanks to improved weather resistance, the qualities of a sole made from TPU are more constant even when temperatures fluctuate, an especially important aspect of our leisure-time winter models.

Polyurethane (PU)

Polyurethane (PU) is a soft plastic that has very good cushioning properties and is usually used in the midsole as a result. Through the use of PU, the soles become lightweight and functionally flexible.

Polyester

Polyester is synthetic plastic fibre made from crude oil. In chemical terms, it is a polymer that can be processed into many different materials. Thanks to its chemical flexibility, polyester is lightweight, dries quickly, does not shrink and has the highest levels of tear and abrasion resistance.

Viscoelastic latex foam

Viscoelastic latex foam is made of a remarkable polymer that lends a special form memory to the foam. Once body heat or pressure is applied to the viscoelastic foam, the foam adapts exactly to these particular contours. This feature equally distributes pressure and eases stress on the feet.

Mesh

Mesh is a material that consists of many evenly spaced holes. It is usually made of polyester or nylon and basically a lattice-like material that is created by interwoven threads. Thanks to its special design, the man-made fibre is particularly permeable to air, has special moisture-regulating qualities and is easy to care for, breathable and crease-resistant.

Suede leather

Suede leather comes from the flesh side of the hide. It has a looser fibre structure, a quality that creates a velvety surface and a light pile. Suede leather is particularly durable and open-pored. Depending on the desired look, suede leather can remain untreated or be oiled or waxed.

Synthetic

Our synthetic fabrics made of such plastics as nylon, polyester, polypropylene and elastane (Lycra) are primarily used as design elements and protection for the upper due to their abrasion resistance and tear strength.
